“My interest in exploring color took root at age six. It’s always been intuitive.”

With a background in physics and fine art, Judy began her professional practice in the 1980s. At the time, her work wasn’t called CMF; it meant creating entire products and spaces from scratch, with color, material, and finish naturally woven into the process. For Judy, they have always been connected to every other part of design.

After operating the design partnership Teema Design Atelier from 1984 to 2000, Judy founded Illuminare in 2000. The studio’s work spans product design, creative CMF, trend and color forecasting, automotive color and textiles, and commercial interiors, with particular expertise in custom leather and fabric development. Bringing together traditional knowledge and modern solutions, Illuminare helps clients see what is possible and makes the process feel clear and approachable.

Since 2017, Judy has also brought this perspective to education as a guest juror for CMF projects at ArtCenter College of Design. Drawing on her industry experience and practical solutions, she encourages the next generation of designers to develop an appreciation for aesthetics and a thoughtful, sustainable approach to materials.
